Mercury launched as a challenger bank targeting the startup ecosystem — the company that understood that startups have different financial needs than small businesses or enterprises. The early product was narrowly focused on banking APIs and team cards, but the wedge was the ecosystem: Mercury built its product to integrate with the tools startups already used.
